Face to Face
Friday, May 29, 2020 by Unknown

This is a wonderful season.  This weekend is Pentecost in the annual Hebrew calendar.  The very first Pentecost, known as Shavuot, occurred when the Children of Israel were on the way from Egypt's captivity under Pharaoh to the land of Promise.  You can read the story beginning in Exodus 19.  The Lord stopped them at Mount Sinai.  This is a time of joyful celebration for the Jews and for us.  It is a time to commune with the Lord God; commune with him face-to-face; you and the Lord God.  Read Exodus 33:11.

There are complications.  When we are involved in something this grand, the history pretty much proves there will be complications.  For them; they lapsed into their common practices learned in Egypt.  They had of course been in Egypt for 430 years and only on this new journey with the Lord for a few trying yet wonderfully glorious days; they lapsed into old practices at the the very foot of the mountain while the Lord God and Moses worked on the code on the summit.

Still, not ignoring the failures of the people or our own, look at how the Lord God desires to relate to his people.  He knew Moses and talked with him as someone would a friend.  Moses and the elders of Israel sat at a meal with the Lord and beheld him (Exodus 24:9,10).  These are some of the most incredible accounts in any book anywhere.  This is how the Lord God wants to know us and wants us to know him (Exodus 19:3-6).  It boggles my mind to think of it.

This was under the "old Covenant".  This was before Christ came and made a way for us all . . .   So, what is possible now?  Just how wonderful could such an encounter be?

Better still, invite the Lord God into your current situation.  Invite him to be real to you right now.  I have no doubt that he wants to be face-to-face with you.  He created you just for such.  He looked for this type relationship in Genesis chapter 1.  He approached the Children of Israel here at Sinai on that first Pentecost.  In spite of repeated rejection, he sent Jesus Christ to us.  He sent his own son.  Even when we humans missed it again, the Lord poured out the Holy Spirit at another Pentecost (Acts 2:4).  I don't know how it could be any clearer--the Lord God wants to know us face-to-face.  He has been looking for this for centuries.

I want to go out there and make myself available to him.  Why wouldn't that be fantastic?  Want to come along?
